About the Inspiration Behind Sammy’s Gourmet

In mid 2008, Sammy’s old age was starting to get the best of her. Sick with Alzheimer’s and Pancreatitis, she was losing weight and was also in constant pain. Finding a meal that would keep her failing energy up, yet was low in fat content was a mission in onto itself, and often Sammy was disinterested in the processed foods she was given.
That is until her owner, frustrated with the food search and not finding anything on the market that Sammy liked, started cooking her meals right out of her kitchen, with a formula approved by her veterinarian.
Suddenly, Sammy perked up at the home cooked meal. And twice a day, she ate a combination of brown rice and ground chicken, with slightly steamed broccoli or cauliflower. Sometimes she’d want ground turkey instead of chicken. And occasionally, she’d ask for her favorite: raw green bell peppers that were cold and crunchy on her gums.
Her weight came back. Her energy. And with her meals, she took a supplement powder filled with vitamins, minerals, and enzymes specifically made for dogs. And soon enough, her allergies disappeared. Her itchy skin, a common ailment of Border Collies, was no more.
She ate like this for a whole year, being hand fed and loved by her owner, until she passed away on June 16, 2009, with more good days under her belt than bad.
